For Colleges and Universities, Technical Schools, State and Local Governments buying office furniture on Georgia State Contract is a winner.

Schools and State and Local Governments do have other options, but Georgia State Contract Purchasing for office furniture is often the best.

Here are the Top Ten Reasons to buy Furniture on Georgia State Contract:

1. The State has already negotiated good pricing discounts with the manufacturer, because of the collective purchasing power of the State. Pricing is set usually for a three year period. Pricing discounts vary depending on the level of service needed: delivered and installed or dock delivery. (Note: Freight and fuel surcharges can not be added to the prices on State Contract.)

2. Pricing can be all inclusive with delivery, shipping and installation already included in price, no matter where in the State the product is to be delivered and installed.

3. Because the State of Georgia has pre-approved manufacturers, purchase orders can be written even over a $5000.00 dollar amount.

4. If purchased through a certified dealer, the service after the sale is many times better than coming from a vendor who is just selling you one product on a one project basis.

5. If the dealer knows what to do, many times customization of furniture with drawings can be purchased.

6. The Dealer that designs the space, specifies the product, can also purchase it for the end user. This ensures no substitutions in the specifications (versus bidding) and will give, many times better continuity to the design and overall look on the project.

7. If you need a quote quickly, a Georgia State Contract quote from a good dealer can be made very fast. (This is very handy when you have monies available that need to be directed before end of physical year. (Use it or Loose it)

8. When Jeannetta Design Associates uses Georgia State Contract , fees are paid by the Manufacturer. The end user gets to work with Jeannetta , a premier designer, without paying design fees. Many times this is a saving of thousands of dollars especially on large projects.

9. Furniture on Georgia State Contract are required to give a minimum of 10 year warranty on most products (except fabrics, gas lifts, etc.)

10. Invoices are not issued until furniture is delivered, installed and the end user has signed off on the furniture project.

Professors who wish to engage students during large lectures face an uphill battle. Not only is it a logistical impossibility for 200+ students to actively participate in a 90 minute lecture, but the downward sloping cone-shape of a lecture hall induces a one-to-many conversation. This problem is compounded by the recent budget cuts that have squeezed ever more students into each room.

Fortunately, educators (including myself) have found that Twitter is an effective way to broaden participation in lecture.

For most people, recalling their college dorm elicits some strong emotions. For some, it’s where they drink their first beer. For others, its the inescapable scent of the never-vacuumed carpets.

Now, a new dorm review website DormSplash.com has ranked the nation’s best and worst. See the complete lists here.

Colleges dorms come in all shapes and sizes. But if you’re looking for the best, Georgia State University takes the cake. Other schools following closely include University of Missouri-Columbia, Winona State University and Loyola University in Maryland.

The individual winner of best dorm in the country was St. Basil’s Court (La Salle University), followed by Lucas Hall (Winona State University), Farley Hall (Villanova University) and University Commons (Georgia State University).

Do you remember your college home as miserable or dilapidated? Garner Hall (University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign) tops the list as worst dorm in the country. Similarly dreadful conditions can be found at Commonwealth Hall (George Mason University), Darnall Hall (Georgetown University) and President’s Park (George Mason University).

If you’re looking for a party, Briscoe-Shoemaker (Indiana University-Bloomington) tops the nation’s on campus residences. Also flipping cups and tossing pong balls are the residents of Riepe College House (University of Pennsylvania), Lucas Hall (Winona State University) and Bobb-McCulloch (Northwestern University).

The nation’s hottest students live in Hurst Hall (Mississippi State University). Other halls noted for their looks include Ragans Hall (Florida State University), Welsh Hall (Villanova University) and Wildwood Hall (Florida State University).

On Georgia State Contact the manufacturer pays us our fees and design is included. Non-state contract projects we waive any design fees if products are purchased thru Jeannetta Design Associates.

Your school, bank, or company has a new building, renovation, classroom or other area that’s now been approved and you are responsible for the buildings furniture. Where do you start? You have one chance to get it right. What resources do have available to you? How long does it take to receive furniture? We have computer training and classroom instruction in same space. What is the best solution? How do we get everything installed on time? Who can help us with the design? What’s the best way to get the best products for monies available? We have some large students and or employees, what’s the best classroom or task chair for them? We have someone with back problems, how do we accommodate them? These are just a few of the many questions that you may face when furnishing a new building.

As a furniture dealership design group for over 20 years, we have been asked these questions many times. Each school varies as to their needs, wants and goals. But every project has the basic same process that should be tried to adhere to in order to insure a successful project.

This next statement is very important to the success of your next project. Pre plan, don’t wait till the last minute to start planning your furnishings. Under the gun design and rush purchasing will limit your options available to your school, and willlead to mistakes and less than favorable results. Most furniture takes 4-6 weeks to manufacturer once a purchase order has been sent in. This however doesn’t take into consideration, holiday manufacturer downtime, manufacturer retooling times, freight delivery time, damaged freight issues, checking of acknowledgements for accuracy, installation time frames, or any specials that take longer lead times. Give yourself at least a good three to four months (if possible) of pre-planning of selections and design for bigger projects where a whole building needs to be furnished.

Here is one example of the process we use for larger projects

Interviewing of Vendor/Dealership

Selection of vendor/dealership

Meetings with salesman, designer, architect

Looking at furniture demo samples, fabrics and visiting furniture showrooms

Actual measuring of space in different areas to insure accuracy (usually the architect plans are accurate bur during construction something may have changed. Do not skip this one.)

Prelim drawings, layouts, pricing

Tweaking of specifications, layout drawings, furniture selections, pricing

Presentation of final drawings, layouts, pricing

Drawings and pricing of any specials

Design boards for approval

Your Committee approvals

Submitting to procurement for furniture orders

Checking of orders for accuracy

Submitting orders to Manufacturer

Receiving and checking acknowledgements for accuracy

Coordinating and scheduling of installation.

Receiving majority of product at job site to reduce doubling handling.

Installation of products.

Dealing with any freight damage or missing parts etc.

Walk thru with end user, noting any defects, checking correct product quantities or other issues.

Ordering of additional products as need.

Secondly consider a reputable furniture dealership that has a good designer on staff that is knowledgeable, has experience and easy to work with. A salesmen from dealerships can be good at product knowledge, but they are not always the best at color selections, space -planning, working with the architect, special need assessment, design boards, budget assessment, 3-D imaging of furniture in the space and marrying existing furniture with new, just to name a few reasons. A good designer is a great asset to have on your team. They will work closely with the architect, end user, salesman and manufacturer to insure all products fit the needs, wants and goals of the School, State County, City or corporate entity. At Jeannetta Design Associates Inc. We call it the three D’s, Define, Design and Deliver.

Pre planning is huge for any project. At Jeannetta Design Associates we have found it very effective to start all projects with pre planning meetings. At these meetings we find out the scope of the project. We probe the end user to find out some of the following:

Here is just a sampling of Questions:

Is the space existing or new?

State Contract purchasing?

Budgets available?

What areas need to be furnished?

What styles are appropriate? Or desired. (Traditional, contemporary, transitional)

Which areas have unique needs?

What time constraints are you working under?

What areas need power and or data?

What technological needs is a perquisite?

What type of computer training do you do?

Does existing furniture need to blend with the new?

What’s has and hasn’t worked you in the past?

Where will the power and data be located?

Do you need receptacles in concrete slab?

Any special needs for students or employees to accommodate?

How many need to be seated in classrooms, auditoriums?

How many do you need to seat in lobbies waiting areas?

What are the needs in offices?

What is the color theme? What has architect picked for finishes?

How much storage is needed?

Are you considering case goods or system furniture? (cubicles)

Are you looking at laminate or wood or combination for case goods? What type edge details should you use?

Before these meetings Jeannetta Design usually has asked the end user if it s ok to contact the architect ( if one is being used) and have them send plans over to us in a DWG format and we put them in our Cad program to begin initial and preliminary scaled layouts for the project. We have found it very useful and professional to always write and distribute a minute of meetings to all parties involved to keep everyone on the same page, as not to miss any important issues previously discussed,

this helps to insure all parties are on the same page.

In today’s environment, budgets are not as plentiful for projects as in years past. Every project needs to be maximized as to monies spent, and value received and needs and goals met. An experienced furniture designer from a reputable dealership can be the difference from an “ok” project to a “Wow” project.

If there is not a fee to use a designer and they are undeniably qualified and experienced why would you not use a firm with a designer to insure your project is a great success?

As an example, Jeannetta for our firm will get very detailed in the interviews probing for such things as storage space and filing requirements, desk working habits, workflow, copiers, printers, work areas needed, WIFI needs, electrical requirements etc. These elements are huge in deciding correct types of furniture needed for the right application. In selecting a dealership and manufactures remember that all dealerships and manufacturers are not equal. Here’s my the point. Some manufacturers make great products, but when a problem arises as to warranty issues they are very weak and it can be like pulling teeth to get them to honor their warranty. It is not always the Manufacturer that is slack. We have heard horror stories of dealerships that do not do their due diligence and do not help take care of problem issues when they occur. Remember, in big projects, problems will occur and you need someone who is going to be in your corner to take care of these issues. But a true mark of a good furniture vendor and manufacture is when they take care of problems after the sell when they already have been paid.

Note:. Jeannetta Design Associates is a dealership design group focusing on higher education, financial institutions and state and local governments in the state of Georgia. Jeannetta is a premier designer of interior furniture projects. As the lead designer and co-owner of Jeannetta Design Associates, Jeannetta receives accolades on every project she is a part of. Most of the time the end user doesn’t pay for her talents when purchasing on state contract or thru Jeannetta Design Associates Inc.
